Ellie's Highlights from Australia

Ellie's first time in a high chair... and she can use a sippy cup!
Swimming with Daddy.
Hanging out with Maya and Rhetta... unfortunately she didn't get one of those yummy popsicles. Instead, she got a teething ring.
Playing with Lily and Poppy... Josiah and another Lily were also there, but they aren't in this picture.
Playing with Jess... her favorite person in Australia, I think. Jess could walk in the room, and Ellie would start smiling and laughing. No matter what else was going on, she kept her eye on Jess.
What good memories for a little girl to have!

Friends from Australia

First of all let me say that we saw many, many great friends in Australia.... not just the ones pictured here. I have learned my lesson... if you are not going to see friends more than once every few years, don't get distracted by good conversation and forget to take photos. :)
Above are Ivor and Carol. They let us stay with them our first week in Australia. We had a wonderful, relaxing, and encouraging week with them.
Men and their chainsaws... John, Franklin, and Adrian. When Franklin studied in Australia in 2006, we lived with John and Lyn and Adrian (their son). This was the first time we had seen them in 2 1/2 years. Lyn and I were playing with Eliana and we heard a loud noise... sure enough the guys had gotten out the chainsaw and were up to no good.
Denise and her husband Keith had us stay with them our last week in Australia. We had many good chats and above you can see we enjoyed a walk on the beach. Well, you can't see that we walked, but I promise you that we did... and we enjoyed it. :)
We also were able to meet with John and Diane, who have been very instrumental in our lives. It was on this afternoon at their house that Ellie, after two weeks of SERIOUS efforts, made her first serious crawl across a room.

What a gift friends are!

Leaving the Solomons

So I am a bit behind in posting (but hoping to catch up soon...). On April 3 we left Honiara. From the plane, we had some nice views of the city.

It was seriously only a couple minutes later that we were already to the southern coast of Guadalcanal.

Our curious little girl wanted to see everything, too.

Our Family

Franklin and his brother Silas.
Nena (Franklin's mom) and her kids that were in Honiara when we left... from L to R: Lingesi, Rita, Nena, Silas, Lisa, Franklin, Christina. (Joy, Dudu, and Lois were in the village)

Silas, Lingesi, Lisa, Lisa's son Abel, Christina, Franklin, Nena, Me and Eliana, Lisa's daughter Hadassah, Rita, her son Richie who is three months older than Ellie, and Rita's husband Alick. Lisa's husband Rex was at work... and our other immediate family members: Joy, her kids Melinda and Jarit, Silas' wife Freda, and their kids Jennifer, Lingesi, and Olivia, Franklin's sister Dudu, her husband Philip and their kids Bronwyn, Ebony, and Talisha, and Franklin's youngest sister Lois were in the village. Unfortunately we didn't all get together for a family pic in the village!!!
To our WONDERFUL family in the Solomons, we love you and miss you!

Food

With such a big family, meals can take quite a bit of time to get together... one time when a bunch of us were getting together, we made tortillas for tacos and had pineapple upside down cake.

The night before we left, we had a HUGE feast... look at how much rice we needed! We also had fish, a couple types of chicken, fruit, sweet potatoes, kasava, cabbage, pineapple upside down cake, and cupcakes. It was just as much fun spending time with everyone getting everything ready as it was eating it together.

Lorina's Hair Salon...

I loved playing with Franklin's family's hair. The texture of their hair is perfect for braiding.
Nena's hair (Franklin's mom) was too short to braid, but she still let me mess around with it. :)

Eliana thinks my work is pretty impressive... she's excited to have hair that's long enough for me to braid.

Eliana loves her Koko'okini (Grandmother)

Eliana LOVED spending time with her Koko'o. She slept on her, she played with her, she was fed by her, she was bathed with her, she sang with her, but most of all, she was loved by her! Now she misses her Koko'okini.

Eliana's expressions

Calmly Curious...
A bit more curious...

Not interested...

Happy...

A future musician?

Eliana learned many valuable lessons in the Solomons... one of which was how to play a ukelele.
